Ella The Tarantula

I posted a couple of months back about buying an Oklahoma Brown Tarantula. It took me quite some time to feel confident enough to hold her. Once I worked up the nerve I had a friend photograph the moment. I have to say it wasn't as horrid as I thought it would be. She was very sweet, and did not try to bite me. If she would have decided to sink her fangs into my hand I'm afraid she would have been a "flying spider". As it is, all is well and I am encouraged to continue to hold her and conquer this fear forever!

  1. And finally you got the courage to make her sit on your hand. Though their bite may be not dangerous, but still you should be careful. Not only the picture is amazing, but your pose is also very beautiful.

  2. I am SOOOOO Careful. I have no desire to have 1/4 inch fangs jabbed into my hand or any other body part...LOL. So far she seems gentle and tolerant. Thank you for the kind comments on the photo, it is all the photographer I assure you...LOL

  3. Hi MObugs!

We're so proud of you! That is a beautiful photo, not only in its composition but in the relationship it displays between human and a creature that most of us are fearful of. Thanks for setting such a great example!

  4. Thank you Rebecca and Kenton. I was so excited that I finally held her. So far so good. I can't wait to use her for programs.

  5. I had a tarantula when I was younger myself. My young niece was very afraid of it and was worried about it escaping. I told her "don't worry they only come out at night". Huge mistake, I don't think she slept for a week after that.

Their feet kind of tickle when they crawl over your skin. It never bit me, but I did have a pet spider I caught outside bite me.

  6. LOL, I actually laughed out loud when I read this. My husband is afraid of all things creepy and crawly. I have tanks in the basement that house large cockroaches, snakes, a gecko and a tarantula. He lives in fear they will end up in bed with him....hehehe. I've not been bitten yet either, but truthfully I've not held her much yet. I'm so glad you stopped by and shared your stories, I look forward to seeing you around again. :o)

  8. Oh believe me Tanrantula I am exceptionally careful when handling her. I am under no illusion that she couldn't hurt me. I approach her slowly and handle her gently and so far she seems tolerant of being bothered. DO you have tarantulas?
