Never seen this type of mayfly before. Size approximately 1/8-1/4" and dull white color. Turn on a light after dark and thousands show up. So many that some have ended up in food in the restaurant I work in. They seem like shad fly hatches I've heard about from up north, but they should not be in Missouri? Might be of interest to an entemologist. Never seen that kind of swarm before. Maybe something to do with the unnatural flooding of the Missouri river this year?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1013316887660017880.post-85018758921652638952010-11-30T21:27:46.238-06:002010-11-30T21:27:46.238-06:00Thanks Dr. Lewis. The most I have are maybe a dozen or two at the porch light. Imagine my surprise when I signed into this weeks work and discovered one of the topics was going to be mayflies.Shelly Coxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18367843308248195970noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1013316887660017880.post-24691139463217963322010-11-30T21:22:05.450-06:002010-11-30T21:22:05.450-06:00good stuff, Shelly, as usual.
